It seems as if Cape Town is the place to be when you want to make it into the music industry. We’ve seen the likes of Jody Williams the former Idols winner and Jack Parrow making waves in the music industry. Now however, there’s once again talent sprouting from Bellville. Jax Panik the new South African hyper pop band who formed in 2007 and quickly worked their way up the music success ladder.
The group was formed as a parody by the members, Jacobus van Heerden and Johnny de Ridder. The main purpose of the parody being to make fun of the then traditional rock bands which took over the South African music scene. The group however did things much differently compared to other groups. They refused to do live performances and opted to post their music online on social networks. They released their first full length album in 2007 with hugely successful hits such as Hit or Miss, Cigarette & Cinnamon and Russian Roulette. These hits became an overnight success as it charted on various music charts around the country as well as campus radios. The group was also nominated for a MTV Africa Viewer’s Choice Award.
The latest album was released in 2010 titled I am Jax Panik and saw the band perform live for the first time and consisting out of four members wearing masks. Even though they are four members, they still speak of Jax Panik as a third person. This is a group which still has loads to show their fans.
Their latest album titled “I am Jax Panik” is doing exceptionally well with smash hits such as “Get up (If you’re hot)”, “Dinosaur” and the fan favourite, “Sex me slowly”. It is literally impossible not to get up and dance to these songs. The deluxe album has 10 tracks and 5 remixes on while the second disc is a DVD with various music videos such as “Sex me slowly”, “Touch me now”, “Take me (Break me)” and more. The album is available at various music outlets and should be at the new Musica Stellenbosch store.
